Designer in Residence 2017

Nova Iskra is proud to announce this year’s open call for Designer in Residence program for a month-long residential stay in France, aimed at designers, architects and other authors or researchers active in related fields.

Exchange of authors takes place through the CREATE IN RESIDENCE platform, a multi-disciplinary international program that was initiated in 2014 by the Swedish Institute in collaboration with Nova Iskra, Krokodil Festival and a range of partner organizations. The partners this year are the largest Swedish organization dedicated to support of artistic production IASPIS, the French Institute and Goethe Institut  in Serbia, Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Serbia and finally, AMI/Dynamo and LFO/ZINC maker lab from Marseille.

Interdisciplinary work, careful planning of each of the residencies according to the needs of their users and the specifics of the host organizations are the main features of the program. Since 2014, more than 30 authors benefited form the program. Besides the designers who had an opportunity to work in Sweden, this was also the case for writers, cartoonists and translators – through the open call conducted by Krokodil and their “House for Writers” project.

Last year CinR platform expanded its collaborations and exchanges to other countries besides Sweden, so this year Nova Iskra is announcing the open call for Serbian authors for a one-month residency in Marseille (France). The residential stay in Marseille has no fixed thematic framework, but its primarily intended for those interested in expanding their knowledge in the field of digital fabrication. The concept of the program is still “open-end”, meaning that the participants are not expected to realize or complete their projects during their stay, but to use the time spent on residential program for the development of projects relating to these fields. The visiting author from Serbia will have support  from two local organizations, both located in the creative center Friche la Belle de Mai – DYNAMO incubator and LFO/ZINC makerspace.

Travel and accommodation costs as well as a full scholarship are covered, while authors will be required to engage in programs of local organizations during their stay, through public presentations, participation and organization of workshops and other kinds of programs. The residential stays will be realized in the period of October-November. At the same time, Nova Iskra will host one Swedish and one German author, as well as one author from France.

All interested designers, architects, researchers and authors from Serbia can apply no later than September 1st at midnight via the online form http://bit.ly/2sW5tfy. In addition to filling out the form, it is mandatory to send a portfolio and a work plan -proposal of the project that would be developed during the residential stay, that should also include a motivation letter.
