Smart Living Challenge – A global search for sustainable innovation is an open international innovation competition designed to generate business opportunities and ideas that foster a sustainable lifestyle in urban environments. This could be products, services and solutions that will make it easier for individuals to live smarter and more sustainable lives.
The SLC innovation contest is presented by the Swedish Institute, and is open to anyone interested in presenting ideas on how to make daily life more sustainable. Today, a growing majority of the global population lives in cities. This trend is bringing new challenges in terms of housing, transport and food supply. New knowledge, creativity and rapid technological advance offer a means of finding and developing tomorrow’s smart solutions. The idea is to use the technology, innovative drive and competence at our disposal to encourage the development of urban lifestyles in which sustainable solutions are both attractive and profitable. Solutions where design and technology, nature and efficiency go hand in hand.
For this reason, Smart Living Challenge is divided into three separate categories: Move dedicated to transportation, Live dealing with the aspects of our habitats, and Eat concerning the food issues. There are two winning categories, one for those with new ideas and one for existing innovations. Ideas with a business potential are preferred but ideas from all other fields are welcome, including ICT, robotics, design, re-use, behavior etc.
The 15 winners will be awarded a trip to visit Swedish cutting-edge spots for smart urban life. There, they will have the opportunity to meet, network and exchange ideas with actors in the Swedish innovation system. The deadline for submitting ideas to the official website (www.smartlivingchallenge.com) is July 1, 2014. Locally, a number of workshops will be presented, with selected facilitator from Sweden and local experts. These guest workshops are to be held in 10 different countries, while the first presentation of the program outside of Sweden will be in Belgrade, Serbia, in collaboration with Design incubator Nova Iskra and SwedishEmbassy in Belgrade. The three sessions will be held on March 7th and 8th 2014.
The project is organised by Munktell Science Park in collaboration with the Swedish Institute, SISP – Swedish Incubators and Science Parks, VINNOVA, Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Mälardalen University, ABB and other Swedish organizations.
